Sunday, Giorgio Armani showed his Emporio line. It's dedicated to ski resort fashion. The second - line presentation opened with couples clad in ski outfits walking down a runway, dotted with snowflakes. For each man clad in down coat, velvet dinner jacket with incorporated silk shawl, Armani had a female counterpart wearing a look - a - like outfit. But while the men wore their trousers tucked into apres - ski lace - ups, the women, except when on the slopes, wore dresses.

Prada, presented its winter menswear collection for 2009. It features a selection of sharp suits. For the more conventional Prada man, shirts come crisp and high necked with small collars. They're worn with trousers that seem a smarter version of skinny jeans. Jackets are double and single breasted. The more adventurous fashionista may be tempted by the trousers that come in strong colors. They can be worn with boots over the trouser leg, and a tie tucked into the belt for dramatic effect.

Another attraction is the Versace Men's collection for autumn /winter 2008. The collection was both patrician and austere.

The designs come in luxurious materials like cashmere and silk. The designs were inspired by two paintings by Polish artist Tamara de Lempicka: the portrait of Doctor Boucard and that of her first husband. In the pictures both men are wrapped in overcoats with the sharp square outlines typical of the art deco period.

At Versace the long overcoat was back, impressive, opulent and tailored. The jackets were vital for demonstrating the uncompromising elegance of the collection.
