UniSA Industrial Design student Margot Penner has designed what could be the world's most comfortable high heel.
The silver Structured, Luxurious and Fashionable heels are a cross between stilettos and sneakers.
They feature an air-cushioned inner sole from a PUMA running shoe, extra padding and come in B or C sizes for thin or wide feet.
Ms Penner, 23, who created the shoes as part of the final-year project of her course, said they reduced the amount of pressure on the foot by almost 70 per cent when compared with a standard 7cm heel.
"I found my heel had a maximum peak pressure of 98kg/cm sq compared to a standard heel which was 153kg/cm sq," she said. "This means women who wear my high heels everyday would feel a lot less pain, burning and discomfort."
Ms Penner, who also studies shoe design at TAFE SA and works in a shoe store, hoped her design one day would be on the market.
"My dream would be to get my design picked up by a shoe company so I could develop it," she said.
The S.L.F heels will be part of Innovate Me, an exhibition by 25 UniSA Industrial Design students which opens on Sunday at the Torrens Parade Ground.
Other innovative designs on show will be a ute-mounted crane which helps lift heavy loads and a recycling water system designed to reduce the water and energy required in fast-food restaurants.
