As Brunsdon lightened the mood, a leading international fashion figure has questioned the Australian fashion pack's devotion to black, saying he was left uninspired by new names at Australian Fashion Week.

Albert Morris, buying consultant for one of London's most influential stores - Browns and Browns Focus - said he was surprised by the amount of dark clothes coming from such a sunny part of the world.

"There's an ocean of black here but do we really want to wear black next spring/summer? It is in every show," Morris said as Australian Fashion Week came to a close.

"I don't know where they are getting this black thing. Is it because we are going through financial crisis? This is the time we should be making clothes that make you happy."

Morris said he was very impressed by the collections of established designers that the London store currently stocked, including Easton Pearson and sass & bide.

He was also impressed by Paris-based Michelle Jank, who returned to the Australian Fashion Week catwalk after three years away.

But he was disappointed that he was not able to spot much new talent.
