Stella McCartney, Collette Dinnigan and Zac Posen are all offering women low-cost versions of their high-end fashions, but will the designer look translate to the budget sales racks?

Zac Posen's 20-piece collection will go on sale tomorrow at the budget retailer, but one of Australia's leading fashion critics is saying that the range will be a flop because it doesn't have enough 'bogan appeal'.

"Having a very luxury big name in such a discount price store doesn't gel with me," Jenny Bannister told ACA.

"At Target you know it's just a way of bringing people into the store."

There has been a recent trend where high fashion designers have turned to low cost retailers to broaden their design appeal.

When Stella McCartney launched a line for Target there was mass hysteria and women literally got into fist fights over pieces of clothing.

"The Stella McCartney collection was a great example of the uneducated running off, thinking they were getting a name brand, with some rubbish made in China," Ms Bannister told the Herald Sun.

But, Bronwyn McCahon, editor of Cosmopolitan magazine thinks Zac Posen's line will be well received.

"I think it will be well received in Target as it offers edgier work wear basics," Ms McCahon said.

"The cuts and fabrics look expensive and the price is amazing for a designer piece. I don't think the response will be quite like Stella's response as Zac doesn't have a famous father for which she is known for first and foremost, but true fashionistas will know Zac and flock to see the range."

As for the claim that Zac Posen's line doesn't have enough 'bogan appeal', McCahon says that sometimes bogans need to look nice too.

"Bogans need to dress up sometimes too and there are definitely pieces from the range that would suit most people."
