This is another Q&A in The Red & Black's series on clubs and organizations.

Q: Why does your organization exist, and how long has it existed on campus?
A: We have existed since fall 2006 because we no longer have a fashion design major available to students who are interested in the designing aspect of fashion.
Also, this enables students to have a hobby for designing.

Q: What is the most common misconception about your organization and how would you clarify it?
A: We often are compared to other UGA organizations who also are involved in the fashion industry. However, we are an organization that focuses on the designing aspect of the fashion industry and we showcase our designs in our two fashion shows, one in the fall and one in the spring.

Q: What does your organization do in addition to meetings?
A: Besides our meetings, we have sketch contests held in the spring.
We attend AmericasMart in Atlanta in the fall and spring, and we are active members with the FACS service projects.
We are currently talking about having a service project dealing with recycling and reusing clothing, and we hold two fashion shows per school year.

Q: Who is encouraged to join your organization?
A: Any student interested in fashion and designing along with PR, event planning, photography, modeling and overall interest in fashion.
We disregard majors because what a person majors in does not decipher whether or not they can sew something amazing.
This year we have three male members, which is exciting because most people believe that women are the only ones in the fashion clubs.

Q: When, what time and where do you meet?
A: We meet Tuesdays at Dawson Hall in room 306 at 6:30 p.m.

Q: What's the first step in becoming involved?
A: Attending meetings is the first step. Second, if you enjoy the meetings and are interested, you pay your dues that go toward our semester fashion show, and you regularly attend our meetings.
Then, as we continue to organize and plan our show, you can take part in any of the subgroups we have: event planning, PR or stage coordinating.
We encourage any ideas from members who want to see something in our club that we may not have already.

Q: What does FDSA hope to accomplish overall?
A: We hope to establish ourselves as a permanent club that will continue to encourage students who have no prior experience in sewing to join and create one or more outfits that portray their personality.
We hope to accomplish a reputation for our outstanding clothes and our innovative creations.

Q: What's your next event students should look out for?
A: "Fall in Love with...FDSA" is our fall fashion show tonight at 7:45 in the Georgia Hall. It's $3 in advance and $5 at the door.
