STRAW COWBOY HATS
"It's a great way to protect your face and have a cool look for summer,"
Kaufman says of this modern take on the western classic.
"They're lightweight and the shape works well on many face types."
The chapeau looks equally chic when paired with a sundress
(like Teri Hatcher's, left) or a bikini (like Rebecca Romijn's).
OVERSIZED SUNGLASSES
Want to be a diva? Just throw on a pair of extra-large shades
(as seen on Nicole Richie, left, and Paris Hilton).
"Because they're so gigantic, it's a funkier look," says Kaufman.
"And they're coming in more colorful frames than ever before."
LOW-SLUNG WOVEN BELTS
Add some shape to a loose tunic top or peasant dress with a hip-skimming belt.
"It really does complete the look," says Kaufman.
"It's also great for a lot of women because it's not waist-cinching – it just elongates your top."
Jessica Simpson, left, and Kate Beckinsale opted for
boho leather versions with big gold buckles.
GLADIATOR SANDALS
Be sure you're happy with the shape of your legs if you want to wear these strappy flats
(like Lindsay Lohan, left, and Cameron Diaz). "They're not for everybody," says Kaufman.
"Unlike a flip-flop, which is easy and everyone can throw it on, they're really a style statement."
CHUNKY BANGLES
More is more when it comes to these bulky bracelets
(on Ashlee Simpson, left, and Hilary Duff).
"You've got to wear more than one," says Kaufman.
"Stack 'em up, mix 'em up – mix wood with sparkles.
You want a variety of textures, patterns and widths."
TWO-TONED STRAW BAGS
Not a boho girl? Try a straw tote with leather trim, like Lacey Chabert, left, or Eva Longoria has.
"It's the anti-hippie bag – it's more tailored," says Kaufman.
And compared to your average hobo carryall, "it's more sophisticated."
WEDGES
"Wedges come in many varieties this summer," says Kaufman,
"from espadrilles to cork to platforms."
The chunky heels are versatile too: The Black-Eyed Peas' Fergie, left, paired them with shorts,
while Elizabeth Hurley wore hers with a slim skirt.
As a bonus, says Kaufman, "you can find them from $14.99
all the way up to the designer level."
HIPPIE BAGS
"The bags are slouchy and embroidered with colorful detail or fringed," says Kaufman.
"It's more of a weekend bag – not a work bag."
Still, she says, "It works with all of the looks that we're seeing for summer."
COWBOY BOOTS
Forget the UGGs – there's a new It boot in town.
"It's taking a fall or a winter boot and wearing it in summer," says Kaufman.
"The more beaten up they are, the better they look." Cowgirls Kate Bosworth, left, and
Lindsay Lohan wear theirs with dresses and bare legs.
Says Kaufman, "It's about showing the boot."
BIG BEADS
"The big-beaded necklace replaces last summer's brooch
as the must-have accessory," says Kaufman.
"The great thing about it is it's really inexpensive. And it works with tunics and peasant skirts."
Still, this bold jewelry (whose fans include Jessica Simpson, left, and Brittany Murphy)
isn't for the timid: "It makes a statement."
