Saint Laurent unveils its Summer 2021 collection today, an ode to dressing up and traveling to far-off destinationsขtwo things we all could have used more of this year. Titled I Wish You Were Here, Anthony Vaccarello’s runway show is presented via a video that juxtaposes the fashion against undulating sand dunes and blue skies.

Fitting for the collection’s setting, touches of founding designer Yves Saint Laurent’s La Saharienne are seen on pocketed tunics and jackets. Other details from the French fashion house’s ‘60s archives, like mod and minimalist silhouettes, shape the collection. Feathered trim adds a luxe touch on many of the pieces, while more fluid and flowing chiffon dresses appear as the runway transitions from day to night.

Also designing for our newfound collective connection to life at home, Vaccarello presents a number of lively floral printed chiffon swing dresses, complete with marabou trim, for a fun take on the house dress. These are complemented by statement jewelry, with select pieces designed by Claude Lalanne, that bring floral motifs and bright touches of color throughout the lineup.

After being the first major French fashion house to depart from the traditional Paris Fashion Week schedule earlier this year, Saint Laurent has continued to create its own calendar and set its own pace. “I wanted to focus on the essence of things,” Vaccarello said of the collection. “I think it’s a sign of the times. But I didn’t want anything bleak or heavy. The desert, to me, symbolized that yearn for serenity, open space, a slower rhythm.”
