Maybe it’s a sign of the apocalypse, but Roberto Cavalli has gone all subdued. Kinda. On Monday the Florentine voluptuary presented a largely monochrome collection of suits that appeared designed for the Cuban-heeled banker whose workday, at his conveniently located office in New York’s Downtown Cipriani, begins at 5pm. Not to be totally outdone, Cavalli kicked off the show with a photo opportunity with his new musettas, the Spice Girls…At Gucci, designer Frida Giannini sent out a ragtag bunch of haute bohemians in faintly-Russian-inspired jackets, Yeti furs, leather trousers, long scarves and a bazaar’s worth of Gypsy brojangles. All that was missing was a tamborine.
