The popular fashion sports brand have bought the professional kit producers in an attempt to strengthen its presence within the football industry, and compete with the major players such as Adidas.
Umbro currently produces the kit for the England squad as well as Republic of Ireland, Sweden and Norway. They are also responsible for dressing over 100 teams both in the UK’s Premier League and globally.
Ad campaigns for the company have featured top footballers including John Terry and Michael Owen and their consumer sportswear is sold in over 90 countries world wide.
Nike are hoping that the purchase of Umbro will significantly increase the brand’s global leadership in football and boost their popularity and profits over the next few years.
